9780615523521: The Lions' Den

A chilling preview in what could be America’s economic future, The Lions’ Den pits the powerful Saudi Royal family against a lone, little-known Wall Street figure. The story begins in a Saudi Arabian palace where the Grand Prince and the Royal Family are locked in a desperate battle against time to transfer their power and protect their great fortunes—and their very lives—from the fundamentalist revolution in Saudi Arabia that threatens their survival. They unleash a clandestine plot to gain a major foothold in the United States by acquiring majority interest in America’s flagship companies with the help of Wall Street rogues. The President of the United Broadcasting System gets wind of the plot and decides to break it wide open with a live nationally televised prime time documentary intended to spark a federal investigation, giving the assignment to a young, recently-widowed producer, Julie Chambers. Seeking help from Wall Street, Julie finds an unlikely defender of the American system, Mario Monelli, a Mergers and Acquisitions expert at a prestigious investment banking house, pitting him against his long time Wall Street nemesis, Barton Mulvaney, rumored to have shadowy ties to the Royal family. Mario is nervous about the idea, and whether he has the pedigree to challenge Bart. But he's also falling in love with Julie and uses the opportunity to be around her. Mario also heads up the Zoo Crew, a wild bunch of investment bankers who lack the breeding and education of their colleagues—but not the brains—and have dedicated themselves to helping beleaguered companies fend off corporate raiders. They are also champion carousers, who’ve built themselves a remarkable private sanctuary—The Lion’s Den—so that they can freely indulge their most hedonistic desires, under the radar of Wall Street’s harsh politically correct climate. When both worlds collide, Mario faces trouble on all sides. He watches his entire world come apart.

"Sam I Am" is the gripping saga of Sam Mckenna, a baseball teen phenom who-despite his controlling father-climbs from the rubble of the depression ravaged west and is launched into the limelight of the major leagues and Connie Mack's Philadelphia A's, only to have it unravel when he falls under the thumb of the Chicago underworld on the dawn of WWII.

Review:

By Bushkus - See all my reviewsAmazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: The Lions' Den (Paperback) For sheer storytelling finesse, Scott Noto will have few rivals this season. This breakout novel is a shockingly real and seductive narrative, told with bravado flourishes, portentous foreshadowing, sardonic humor and eloquent turns of phrase. Like The Great Santini, it is the story of a dysfunctional man, his tumultuous relationship with his shrewish and manipulative wife who holds his children hostage to his good behavior and the journey he embarks on to find a peaceful co existence with himself through friendship and love. Scott Noto takes a painstaking effort to yank--ever so slightly--on all the sub plot threads of which there are many, skillful not to tear or ripple the fabric of his story. Every detail of his characters are sketched out with naturalness rarely read. But none like Mario Monelli who's drowning in a sea of inner turmoil and self doubt while saving a homeless ex prize fighter, the woman who loves him, his own son and ultimately the country from destruction only to find out he is the one who needs saving. In the end, The Lions' Den is about forgiving Others... and yourself. --Amazon

By Elite Reader - See all my reviewsAmazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: The Lions' Den (Paperback) Ever have difficulty concentrating while you are reading a book only to snap out of it and realize you are reading the same line over and over? Well this won't happen with The Lion's Den. This rivoting powerhouse of a story and Golden Fox winner packs a wallop and is the gem of the literary season. The Lions' Den is a vivid portrayal of greed and betrayal at high velocity, feuled by arrogance and excess but finds closure thru love and acceptance. There are many moving parts to this story but each one is well lubricated, and the talent of the writing makes it swing effortlessly. Its scene progression plays like a movie in front of your eyes waiting for the director to yell CUT. The Wall Street duel between Mario and Bart as they wrestle for the future of the country on live television is masterfully done thru concurrent real time cutaways and resonates throughout the story, building to a crescendo and culminating with a heart pounding and emotionally charged climax in Washington. I give this book 5 stars because it stayed with me days after I read it and it will stay with you to. --amazon

By Beth Hawley - See all my reviewsAmazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: The Lions' Den (Paperback) This is an awesome book. I finished it just 2 days during a business trip to China when I should have been preparing my presentation because it is so engrossing and enthralling and is just plain CRAZY!!. GREAT BOOK! DON'T PASS IT UP! Highly recommended to anyone who digs Wall Street. Yet its not about Wall Street. The scene where Mario drags his drug addicted son up the stairs of the King Theater in Harlem was heart pounding and reads with the visual acuity of a motion picture. I almost dropped my kindle. This is truly one of the best books I've read in the last 5 years. Part of me couldn't wait to finish it, to find out what happens, and part of me never wanted it to end. Scott Noto delivers a sensational debut performance because of his brilliant characterizations and a truly meaningful story. The character of Mario Monelli is a dichotomy of whats inside all of us. No wonder it won the Golden Fox! --amazon
