The process can be used by prisons or any program that confines people and by outpatient and probation programs. The process is based on public health, restorative justice, and solution building. From the Author:

This is a handbook on the development and provision of a reentry and transition planning circle for imprisoned people. Readers will find some helpful aspects they can incorporate into their processes. Since we began experimenting with this circle process in 2005, we have researched it and found it helps children of incarcerated parents deal with their trauma and loss (papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=2666828). Recidivism was also researched in 2015, and shown to be less for people who have the circles (hawaiifriends.org).

From the Back Cover:

"This book is a wonderful journey in how to approach reentry after prison to cultivate a growth mindset. It is a handbook for a practical politics of hope for those who have been cast aside."
~ John Braithwaite, Australia, author of Crime, Shame and Reintegration

"Lorenn Walker and Rebecca Greening provide a mindful solution to an important problem. I hope their program for prisoners reentering society is taken seriously.
~ Ellen Langer, Harvard University, author of Mindfulness

"What impresses me about this handbook is that the clear and comprehensive guide is both based on an insightful and sophisticated review of multiple social science literatures as well as the views and experiences of prisoners and former prisoners themselves. Those voices bring this handbook to life and give it a particular urgency and credibility. I strongly recommend it."
~ Shadd Maruna, Manchester University, Belfast, Northern Ireland, author of Making
Good: How Ex-Convicts Reform and Rebuild Their Lives
