On a cold December morning in a small Midwestern town, two teenagers brutally murder a wealthy store owner for reasons or motives not fully known until the shocking end of the book. With retirement immiment, veteran trial prosecutor, Nick Papais declines to take the case, but reluctantly agrees only after the urging and pleading of the victim's family and the county prosecutor. The case results in the most bizarre trial in the state's history and Papais's thirty years of prosecuting. With minimal physical evidence and witnesses disappearing, it becomes clear to Papais that a conspiracy exists to thwart the prosecution.

About the Author:
Judge Caras graduated from Indiana University School of Law and served in the U. S. Marine Corps, Judge Advocate Generals Office. He is a former trial prosecutor and retired judge.

This book was a genuine surprise, as I am usually not a fan of courtroom reads. They have not had the same punch as watching a movie or TV drama. However, Judge Caras' book drew me in from the beginning and I hung on in anticipation until the shocking ending.
