The sexual abuse of children at any time and in any venue can best be described as the ultimate crime against humanity. To attack the most innocent members of society, those who cannot protect themselves, is abhorrent. There are untold numbers of innocent children across the globe who have been victimized by demented sexual predators, individuals possessing not only warped senses of sexual normalcy but also a callous being through which they revel in dominating innocents. A twisted desire to overpower children coupled with an abnormal physical attraction to prepubescent members of society drives these mentally challenged persons to act on their perverted sexual desires. This is not a story about the individual acts of molestation, sodomy and rape committed by Sandusky, but rather it’s a sordid account of how this serial homosexual pedophile was allowed to exist and to thrive while as a coach at one of the most revered and respected universities in the country, and while acting as the head of a nationally recognized charity founded by the rapist himself. This story is about money; a football story about Penn State University. The Nittany Lion football machine had been credited with an income of over $50,000,000 annually and Penn State administrators were found to have been accused of a conspiracy to conceal the sex crimes committed in this matter for fear of bad press of their pristine football program. The shameful acts, and decided inactions, by certain individuals at the university facilitated the rape and molestation of young boys on their campus and across the state of Pennsylvania for well over a decade. What will be described in this book are the theories of why no one stopped Jerry Sandusky; who had knowledge of his crimes, what the motivations of those around him were, and who could have or would have the motivation to impede a police investigation into his attacks. Theories suggest that along with Sandusky, some wealthy and powerful supporters of both Penn State University and Second Mile may have been involved in attacking young boys along side the now convicted pedophile. The single most disturbing issue is the fact that at least two different Penn State employees, years apart, actually saw Jerry Sandusky performing lewd sexual acts on naked boys in the football locker room and they did not physically intercede to stop the attacks, they did not call the police, and they did not confront Sandusky about the attacks. Ultimately Sandusky felt more secure each time he was witnessed performing sexual acts on children in public and subsequently nothing came of it. Facing no penalty for cavorting naked with prepubescent boys at work or at home, he grew bolder in his attacks. There have been many notorious characters, hated men, who have been brought out to the world as rapists and pedophiles, but no individual will ever be remembered as disdainfully as will be Jerry Sandusky. It appears from all accounts that Sandusky had an insatiable sexual appetite for young boys, but no one blocked him. He raped with impunity and he did it in public with the implied consent of certain Penn State administrators. The elitist Penn State administrators involved in the cover up of Jerry Sandusky’s sex crimes will go down in history as those who allowed for the rape of children; and metaphorically speaking, those who were responsible for the rape of the Nittany Lions. Jerry Sandusky was empowered by his success. He raped and molested boys under the cover of daylight, and no one stopped him.

J. Dennis Preston is a married father of two children and has been an accomplished author for years. While his children were young Preston volunteered as a youth coach within his community, eventually coaching 19 different youth teams in basketball, baseball and football; caring for well over 200 children in his charge. He understands the nuances of protecting children in their formidable years especially the children of others. Preston’s experiences in dealing with the children who he coached, coupled with his own parenting experiences have helped to shape his strong opinions as it relates to the failures at Penn State University and The Second Mile. Having experienced a proactive educational approach regarding the safety and security of children mandated by the local youth organizations, Preston was appalled at the lack of effort that was put forth by the administrators of Penn State University to safe guard the children participating on it’s campus, The Second Mile for its willful shortcomings in protection of their youth participants, and in their respective failures to insulate them from harm. Also weighing on Preston’s mind was the ongoing sexual abuse scandal within the Catholic Church. Having spent his entire educational life in Catholic schools, from Kindergarten through College, he holds intense negative feelings about the manner in which Catholic Bishops within individual Diocese had buried their heads in the sand, condoned through their failure to report, and intentionally covered up sexual abuse by priests across the world. Let it be said that throughout his 17 years of Catholic education Preston never had any similar negative experience with any religious teacher, administrator, Priest, Brother or Nun, and never even heard of the possibility of any abuse, physical or sexual, within the schools or parishes with which he had affiliation. Regardless, he drew the analogy between the Penn State sex scandal and the sex scandal which is pervasive within the Catholic Church, horrifying him over their respective actions.
