About the Author:

Prize-winning novelist, playwright, theater director and actor Carey Harrison was born in London in February 1944, during the World War Two ‘Blitz’ that rained down bombs on the city. His parents, stage and screen actors Rex Harrison and Lilli Palmer, brought him to Los Angeles when he was a year old, and then to New York when he was 5. He completed his education in the UK, at boarding school and at Cambridge University, where he received an Honours Degree, and a Masters Degree, in English. For the past 17 years he has been Professor of English at the City University of New York. He lives in Woodstock, New York, with his wife, the artist Claire Lambe, and their youngest daughter. Harrison’s first play, Dante Kaputt, was staged in the UK at the Phoenix Theatre, Leicester. Subsequent plays were premiered in Edinburgh and Manchester, and his output as a dramatist includes more than 40 plays for the stage, over a hundred plays for television including 17 hours of Masterpiece Theater seen in the US, and many award-winning radio dramas for the BBC, among them the WorldPlay award-winner in 2005 for the best play from an English-language broadcaster, worldwide. Highlights of his Masterpiece Theater output include Freud, a 5-part series featuring David Suchet. His plays have been widely performed and broadcast internationally, with 16 of his plays broadcast in Germany alone; they have been translated into a dozen languages and seen in 37 countries.
