This book, Rhythm ‘n Rhymers, is the foremost teaching tool available with which to insure instruction in grammar, usage, syntax, spelling, and in decent and mannerly living, that has ever been published. Ellie Schmidt taught language arts on several continents and in her native United States, and perfected her method to create a powerful learning tool. This method of recitation and chanting, with movements, eliminates the boredom that traditional grammar lessons provide. The reaction of the students has been excitement and investment, and the retention level greater than any other tool available. The genius of the writing is that human issues are embedded in the text, not to mention a beautiful rhyme and rhythm that gets kids hopping right out of their seats to participate. The hundreds of requests for this work have finally been fulfilled by the skilled collaboration of teacher, psychotherapist and song-writer Elliott Sewell who has made this book a labor of love, putting together Ellie’s thousands of pages of notes and making a polished and orderly book out of the chaos of many years of writing and notations. You will use this large format (almost 400 pages and 8 ½” by 11” by1” thick) nearly every day and your kids will love it.

ELLIE SCHMIDT, MA, beloved K-12 teacher for 42 years on three continents, honor graduate of Luther College, Carnegie Fellow in Language Arts at the University of Chicago, masters level guidance counselor from University of Ohio (with advanced studies at the University of Maryland, Boston University, and the University of California at San Diego), began writing lessons for children in the form of chants or raps or what she finally called Rhythm ‘n Rhymers. She incorporated language arts and child guidance skills into catchy, rhythmical chants that kids not only loved to recite, but effectively learned their contents. She based her approach on scientific principles of learning. It was her goal to see it used worldwide. She has received great acclaim for her work and the continued demand for her material will be met through the persistent and tireless efforts of her husband, (Reverend) Don Schmidt. ELLIOTT SEWELL, MAE, LPCC, is currently in private practice as a psychotherapist. A native of New York City, Sewell earned a bachelor’s at Western Reserve University, completed graduate training in Sociology at New York University, went to medical school for two years at L’Université Catholique de Louvain in Belgium, earned a certificate in music recording from The Recording Workshop in Chilicothe, Ohio, and earned a master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, KY. He performed with a psychodrama company in Great Britain and France, worked as a sociological researcher for the President’s Commission on Civil Disorders. He has taught at the university level in Kentucky and Tennessee, owned and ran a barbecue restaurant, and a professional recording studio. He writes a weekly column on mental health, and has won several awards for both written essays and for songwriting, including songs for children. His goals in life are to bring his music to many, to teach the children well, and to heal those in emotional distress.
