My Name Is Red - A Cat's Tale Book One: Prophecy "All cats dream, and many remember, some as philosophers, dreaming of a better world, some as adventurers exploring their own. Some cats are poets, immersed in perpetual wonder, with visions of plump mice, tall, fragrant grasses and round, silver moons. Some are warriors, some are high priests, but whether they are ruled by their hearts, their senses or their minds, whether they sleep on soft pillows or hunker frightened in alleyways, all cats dream. What better dreams to follow than your own, thought Mother Cat."
So begins a fantasy of love, betrayal and redemption in the magical world of fang and claw, a story woven from the pelts of wild-born, told by an old tom, Red, to three rescued kittens. His Abyssinian mother, dumped in an alley where her pedigree can't protect her from starvation, disease, or death as prey, is rescued by a clan of ferals who bring her to their home in the Green. They believe she is the 'Discarded Queen' of their Prophecy, and that her arrival will end their persecution by man. In their world, homelessness is a crime and death the only punishment.

Sharon and Stan George live in San Diego with their six (official) cats, surrounded by several feral colonies they have trapped, neutered, released and care for daily, a journey that began a decade ago with the discovery of a feral queen feeding her litter in a neighbor's back yard.
Back Yard Mommy was the first of over one hundred cats Stan trapped in their neighborhood with the help of the local Feral Cat Coalition. She still eats on their back porch and has grown so tame they can hold her. She's at least ten years old, a triumph for a feral cat.
Stan and Sharon feel immense gratitude for the San Diego Feral Cat Coalition, San Diego Humane Society, the Chula Vista Animal Shelter, Rescue House, Cat Adoption Services, Shots for Spays, and many more people and groups they've met who dedicate themselves to lessening the suffering of abandoned and feral cats. Working with these generous souls has been a life-changing experience for the couple. They have become cat whisperers, deeply committed to the practice of trap/neuter/return.
In a decade of bottle-feeding kittens and dispensing medication and comfort to sick ferals, Sharon has witnessed stories she wants to tell: stories of pain and death, yes, but also humorous anecdotes, and even love stories. She's been privy to love triangles, tales of unrequited love, obsession, schizophrenia, as well as motherly love. She's seen acts of kindness and generosity, forgiveness, self-sacrifice, and tremendous courage. Sharon and Stan have both learned that cats, in fact animals, are sentient and capable of profound feelings.
When Sharon told her husband she wanted to write stories about the cats they helped, Stan envisioned a larger production: the fantasy trilogy he'd always dreamed about. With a career as a graphic designer and digital artist behind her, Sharon began writing. Inspired by decades of serious reading, Stan told her of characters and plot twists in his mind. They created My Name Is Red - A Cat's Tale.
