This book offers definitive, practical advice on the legal, ethical and professional problems which may affect practitioners treating patients with sports injuries. Its aim is to reduce the risk of legal responsibilities. The first half of the book addresses general problems from all sporting disciplines, including a review of the nature and incidence of sports injury, medical input into legislative amendments for greater safety, HIV disease in sport, uses and abuse of drugs, the role of the team doctor at an overseas venue and the dental damage in contact sports. The second part focuses on specific injuries in selected contact sports and in those pursuits which may involve the risk of serious injury. Appropriate medical intervention is discussed in each of the disciplines considered and an editorial review, in conjuction with solicitors, provides definitive technical advice on the legal aspects of the subject
