Synopsis

*** This book has been updated & revised and is now called - The Parent's Guide to Puberty. ***

Boys who are prepared for puberty are more likely to thrive as they adjust to their changing body and are more likely to make the right decisions about love, sex and relationships.

Most parents dread the time when they have to talk to their ‘tween or teenage son about their maturing bodies, puberty and safe sex. But in Boy Puberty, the author draws on 25 years of experience advising parents on how to make talking to sons about these life-changing issues truly comfortable and effective for both parent and son, even if you are shy or your son is already “anti-parent”.

Inside the pages of this book, you will find a wealth of information, written in a casual and open style, which includes honest advice on growing up and becoming a man:

  • How to tactfully raise the issue of “the birds and the bees” and speak about it candidly
  • Preparing the ground for the discussion
  • What is puberty?
  • When and why puberty happens
  • What changes to expect during puberty
  • How to prepare your son for puberty
  • Includes topics like physical body changes, moods and feelings, acne, sexual feelings, safe sex, consent, masturbation, wet dreams, sex, and more.

Aimed at the parents of young boys, Boy Puberty includes everything you will need to discuss and how to start talking about it.

It’s never easy talking to young teenage guys about what is essentially an adult subject, but with this book, you’ll be much better prepared and able to answer all the questions your maturing boy will inevitably have, as well as lay the foundation for an open relationship, where he knows that he can talk to you about anything.

About the Author

Cath Hakanson has been talking to clients about sex for the past 25 years as a nurse, midwife, sex therapist, researcher, blogger and educator. She's spent the past 10 years trying to unravel why parents (herself included) struggle with sex education. Her solution was to create Sex Ed Rescue, an online resource that simplifies sex education and helps parent to empower their children with the right information about sex, so kids can talk to their parents about anything, no matter what. Cath has lived all over Australia but currently lives in Perth with her partner, 2 children, and ever-growing menagerie of pets. Despite having an unusual profession, she bakes, sews, and knits for sanity, collects sexual trivia, and tries really hard not to embarrass her children in public. Well, most of the time anyway!
