PreSchool-Grade 2--Group Soup is a palatable ``stone soup'' tale. When Rhonda the rabbit and her siblings arrive home, they discover that their mother is out and they must make their own supper. Each contributes a veggie to the pot except Rhonda, who complains that she is ``too hungry to help.'' She impatiently tastes the soup and realizes that it needs something else--her secret cache of parsley. Rough Tough Rowdy plays so aggressively that his brothers and sisters exclude him from their games. He goes off on his own and hooks up with Bear Cub and Young Wild Cat. They give him a rough time and taunt him with the same words he had flung at his siblings. Mother Rabbit then helps her son to see that no one likes rough play. Munsinger's rabbits wear clothes but retain their animal characteristics; their facial expressions and body language capture their childlike personalities. Rhoda's frown and body language capture her childishly snarly responses, contrasted with her eager, helpful siblings. While some of the watercolor illustrations are full-page and framed in white, others show animals in action romping across the pages. Youngsters will have no problem getting the intended messages of these easy-to-read titles. --Jane Saliers, Atlanta-Fulton Public Library
