About the Author
Humphrey Carpenter was born in Oxford and still lives there. He joined the BBC after graduation and still broadcasts regularly. He is well-known for his writing for both children and adults - adult titles include biographies of J R R Tolkein, W H Auden and Benjamin Britten, and THE OXFORD COMPANION TO CHILDREN'S LITERATURE. He is much-loved by children for his popular MR MAJEIKA stories.
