Dark and dashingly handsome, Daniel Crown is the half- breed adopted son of Philip Crown, the marquess of Playden. He is intelligent and has a vast fortune at his disposal, yet Daniel is unhappy and feels trapped in London. He wants to discover who he is and where he belongs, so Daniel and his father make an agreement: Daniel will live at Enolowin, his father's estate in Pennsylvania, for one year, and after that time, if he wants it, Enolowin would be his. But if he prefers to return to England, he could. Brianna Crown rode to Enolowin because she wanted his permission to ride the grounds of the estate, but when she saw him, Brianna made up her mind right then and there that Daniel Crown was the only man for her. Her father warned Daniel about his headstrong and determined daughter, and Daniel made up his mind to stay away from her. Yet Daniel finds it harder to resist Brianna and ultimately he cannot. They decide to marry, but circumstances, and Brianna, put both their lives in danger when Daniel meets his enemy from England on the dueling field. This book was a nice read, but for me, it went too slowly. In the subplot, an upper class white female character falls in love with a black slave and that is acceptable by her parents. This was hard for me to believe because the story takes place in 1793.Fans of Kasey Michaels will love her latest romance, The Promise. It's sure to please new readers too! Fine writing, a good story and an even better romance!Gloria Miller -- Copyright © 1994-97 Literary Times, Inc. All rights reserved -- From Literary Times
