The author, an executive at Media General, a Fortune 500 company, thoroughly examines basic principles of financial analysis and how such knowledge is essential for effective financial decisions by managers. Although financial analysis is rather technical, Donnahoe presents these principles in clear terms with very readable examples and charts. He also approaches the entire concept of financial analysis with respect to today's environment of arbitrage and takeovers. The role of a company's chief financial officer is reviewed and explained as it relates to other executives in a company. While the principles and techniques are not new, the easy-to-follow writing and current viewpoints make this book worthy of consideration.
