Along the journey children are treated to sparkling white beaches, pink clouds, ``five blue doors in the baking hot sun''; ``six wooden windows let the cool wind run.'' Rhyming text in clean round sans-serif print on large white space faces page-filling watercolor paintings. The pictures, in brilliant primary colors, show a mixture of influences: the Bauhaus tradition of clean, uncluttered lines combined with the primitive feeling of Gauguin's islanders.
