Strasburger, chief of the adolescent medicine division at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine in Albuquerque, offers this guide for parents with teenagers. He discusses adolescent development in the context of television, drugs, sex, and rock music. His helpful explanations focus on why teenagers act the way they do and how parents can help them survive the difficult years between 12 and 20. Although he gives thorough treatment to drugs and sexual intercourse, Strasburger also talks about single parenting, divorce, peer pressure, and more. One recurring theme is his advocacy of birth control for sexually active teens. This sensible, interesting guide for parents is highly recommended for public libraries.
