The humble cupcake goes uptown. Hadda stretches the traditional definition of cupcakes in many of her 70 recipes and more than 30 for fillings and frostings. A few recipes pander to the calorie conscious (though, surprisingly, no nutrition data are provided). Beginning and ending notes inform the reader about fanciful variations, ingredients, and baking hints. Barbara Jacobs

Hadda, a food writer and the author of Coffee Cakes (LJ 2/15/92), has come up with more recipes for cupcakes than anyone might think possible, along with lots of possibilities for filling and frosting them. Some are simple, not-too-sweet "coffee-cake cupcakes"; others are elaborate concoctions like Grand Marnier Ouncecakes. There are also recipes that are particularly easy to make for a crowd, whether at a child's birthday party or a holiday open house. Sure to appeal to home bakers looking for new ideas.
