Gr. 5-8. The somewhat irreverent title belies the real intent of this fun but thoughtful book. Iggy Sands, class clown and troublemaker, finds himself running for student council president at Westford Elementary. His two best friends collect the required signatures as a lark, but Iggy realizes that he really does want to run for the office--and win. Iggy struggles with maintaining his old irresponsible image and developing the serious habits and relationships that will earn him the election and a lot of self-confidence. The story takes an interesting supernatural turn with the appearance of Iggy's great-great-grandfather's ghost, who gives advice and encouragement. Both the ghost and Iggy's dad are magicians, and the theme of magic is carried throughout the book. Iggy learns a lesson about what is important in life--finding out what makes him happy and letting the magic of life find him. Susan DeRonne
