Grade 4-6-This title is filled with violent, senseless passages and silly characters who come off as caricatures. Wolverine is a mutant who has the amazing ability to heal instantly when wounded. Readers first meet him in the X-Men's mansion trying to solve the mystery of who he is. His fellow mutant X-Men, who work for the government, try to interest him in playing basketball and other activities, but Wolverine is a lone wolf. What follows is a convoluted plot involving evil scientists and enemy mutants. If this novel, based in part on a MarvelTM comic series, can stimulate reluctant readers' interest and lead them to more fulfilling fare, then perhaps it's worth the blood and guts-otherwise, forget it.
