Illus. in full color. Mr. Russo, the principal, keeps a big bowl of jellybeans on his desk. He doesn't share them with the kids in his school--especially not "instigators" like Judy, Jim, and Ellen. But when Mr. Russo gets into some trouble of his own, suddenly these three "hooligans" turn into heroes. From School Library Journal:
Grade 2-3-A tale about three friends who spend their entire school life bickering, yelling, calling names, and being obnoxious. They are sent to the principal, who does little other than eat jellybeans in front of them, write their names on a piece of paper, buff his shoes, and yell "SCRAM." There is little humor in the portrayal of the school principal as a bumbling jerk or in the disruptive behavior of the three youngsters. For much better humorous offerings about friendship, try the "Polk Street" series by Patricia Reilly Giff and the "Pee Wee Scouts" series (both Dell) by Judy Delton, or the titles featuring Russell and Eliza by Johanna Hurwitz.
