Among the many survival manuals for corporate scramblers, this book stands out as one of the most morally and ethically vacuous of the lot. Certainly the skillful maneuver and the effective approach are essential for survival in business, but according to Rogers ( Fighting To Win ) survival justifies anything. The book is so air-tight in striving for superiority that there is not the smallest cranny in it that would admit a ray of humanity. The text is a curious ramble, consisting of quotations, history lessons, anecdotes, strategies, and case studies. Napoleon, Hannibal, and other militarists figure prominently in the discussion, along with such corporate giants as IBM, Nabisco, Gulf & Western, and McDonald's. A questionable purchase. A.J.
