Softcover book, 6 x 9 inches, 53 pages, stapled binding; includes key to colors and plants, Glossary, index. From Foreword: "A new challenge was created for Mary Frances Davidson that day long ago when she visited the John C. Campbell Folk School and was introduced to the beauty of vegetable dyed yarns. She was so stimulated by the experience that she immediately began to investigate all available sources of knowledge. As a result of her experimentation she was given the opportunity of demonstrating at the First Craftsman's Fair in 1948. There, she had the privilege of working with Mrs. Wilma Stone Viner, a Craftsman of distinction who had created the widest range of natural dyed colors in the Southern Highlands. Mary Frances Davidson has been one of the pioneers in preserving this age old craft. She has been a conserver of many old traditions - an extender of knowledge through scientific research, a promoter, and an inspirational teacher through workshops and demonstrations. She has created a great concern for the preservation of this stimulating and rewarding craft and she is in much demand far outside our Appalachia area for demonstrations and workshops...."
