Only Chester, who has literally fallen into a job at the Supreme Souvenir Factory, can save it from being taken over by the sinister and greedy Mr. Sashwayte.

Grade 2-4 Good fortune follows Chester, an unemployed dog, when he falls into The Supreme Souvenir Factory, which produces pine needle pillows printed with ``I Pine for You.'' There he finds a cozy place to live, good friends, and a rewarding job. Unfortunately, Sashwayte, a weasel (literally and figuratively), has other ideas. After packing Mr. Oates, the president, off to the Sunbelt, he replaces all of the factory workers with ``crabots'' and the pillows with aerosols. Chester, with the help of a friend, must use all of his ingenuity to save the factory and the jobs of his friends. Just the right balance of text and illustrations and a simple vocabulary make this newest offering from Stevenson the perfect introductory chapter book, as well as an excellent read-aloud. The message of this action-packed testament to the work ethic is subtle yet clear, as the little guy succeeds through hard work and determination. The illustrations are vintage Stevenson line-and-wash in sepia tones. Children will gladly pore over the pictures of the factory machinery, complete with sound effects (``Fwub! Fwub! Fwupa! Fwupa!''). Sashwayte is appropriately slick, while Chester appears small but resolute when facing his formidable foes. After cheering Chester on to victory and a promotion to Assistant to the President, young readers are certain to adopt this small hero as one of their own.
