PreSchool-- Two books that have the same basic story line--a mother calls her offspring to her side. Transparent acetate pages show various missing kittens or puppies; when these pages are turned, the youngsters take their places with their parent. The use of actetate is more successful in Kittens because the animals show up better. In both books, the illustrations make attractive use of clean, rounded lines with lots of autumn colors, similar to Ormerod's One Hundred Things to Do with a Baby (Lothrop, 1984; o.p.). Both will appeal to toddlers, but Kittens is definitely the better of the two. --Kay McPherson, Central Atlanta-Fulton Public Library
