PreSchool-Grade 2-- "We'll go to the country and stay overnight," said Mother. And so the Bear family does just that. But they make so many enjoyable stops on the way ("Half the fun is getting there") that they arrive too late to get into the lodge. No matter, they will sleep in the car. It's a modest family anecdote told cheerfully with lots of dialogue. Most interestingly, the book marks the debut of Alexa, daughter of Franz and Aliki Brandenberg. Her colorful drawings are small, detailed, and fresh-looking and her style is appealingly childlike. The effect of story and pictures together is thoroughly disarming. --Ann Stell, The Smithtown Library, NY
