Kindergarten-Grade 3-Hartman presents some 88 rib-ticklers in categories such as "Food Funnies," "Techie Ticklers," and "Gruesome Giggles." Her jokes, most of which rely on clever word play, are fresh and funny, with great appeal for kids of the '90s. All of them are presented in a question-and-answer format- "How did the dragon devour the computer? In just one byte." Alley's amusing watercolor illustrations, along with the varied page layouts, add to the book's appeal. One small quibble: the flyleaf asks three questions from the collection and refers readers to specific pages for the answers, but the book is not paginated. Nonetheless, this picture book is sure to be a big hit with young humorists.
