While Mommy and Daddy are busy at work, I'm busy having fun at day care.
Day care is fun, even though saying good-bye to Mommy and Daddy before work might not be. In this reassuring guide for young children, noted author Joanna Cole shows that, although parents may go to work, they always come back at the end of the day. A helpful Note to Parents is included.
Acclaimed for her Magic School Bus series, Joanna Cole is also the author of the popular I'm a Big Sister, I'm a Big Brother, My Big Boy Potty, and My Big Girl Potty, all illustrated by Maxie Chambliss.

Reviewed with Joanna Cole's When You Were Inside Mommy.
Ages 2-4. Go to Work reflects a child's day care experience, including the morning routine at home, the separation anxiety, the fun at day care, and finally, the parents' return. The first-person text ends, "Do you know what? Miss Terri and Mr. Ken were right. Mommy and Daddy did come back. They always do." A page of practical tips is appended. Inside Mommy , a companion volume, which is classified as fact, begins with a simple explanation of a baby's development in the mother's uterus. It goes on to show the baby's birth, followed by his growth to a child of perhaps three or four years old. An appended "Note to Parents" offers a sound approach to talking with children: "Why should the discussion have a serious, instructional tone? Keep it light and warm." The simplicity and sensitivity of the writing is well matched by Chambliss' line and watercolor wash illustrations. The gentle colors and benevolent portrayals of characters help create a reassuring tone that makes the books natural starting places for family discussions. Carolyn Phelan
