Notes appear as inserts, identifying specific creatures and adding background information. Although crammed with facts and images, the book design avoids clutter and invites inspection. The watercolor-and-pencil illustrations are so handsome, they make postcards look shabby, and linoleum-cut endpapers add yet another look at regional creatures.
