Carolyn Hatch Payne was born November 28, 1963. Her mother told her that her first word was “Horsey.” She grew up in Northern Virginia with a menagerie of horses, dogs, cats, a goat, and even a raccoon. She decided to write her first book Honey Girl because she always wanted to tell their story for all the other horse crazy girls. “I was always told when writing; write about what you know and love best; for me, that is horses and pets.” She lives in Germanton North Carolina with her husband, four horses, and their dog that thinks he is a person.
