Tammy Anckner spent her childhood as an Air Force brat. Stationed as far away as Karamursel, Turkey, she learned to adapt to a new home every two years. Tammy graduated from Western State University in Gunnison, Colorado with a Bachelor’s in Communications. She moved to San Diego, California where she worked in public relations, media and marketing for many different industries, from new home developments to International Polo, Incorporated. In 1991 she moved back to Colorado to be closer to her family. Once “dry docked,” she enlisted in the Navy Reserves as a Journalist 3rd Class and one year later received a Direct Commission as a Public Affairs Officer. She also worked as a Marketing Campaign Strategist for IBM. In 1997, she met and married the father of her son who was born in 1998. Embracing her new role as stay-at-home mom to her three bonus children and their son, Matthew, Tammy began to live out the story told in this book. While getting out of her abusive marriage, she started a Pet Sitting company...it remains her favorite job! Tammy and her son, Matthew, now sixteen, are part of an organization called, “Colorado Victim’s for Justice.” They work hard to tell their story to help change the laws that they will have a positive impact on victims in their state. They most recently testified for a form of “Jessica’s Law,” which allows for minimum sentencing requirements for sex offenders. They watched as the bill was signed into law in June of 2014. Tammy and Matthew will work together on their next book, Just One Boy: A Hero’s Journey. This will be Matthew’s story as told by his mother and remembered through the innocent eyes of a child. Both will continue to bring awareness to the issue of incest and sexual molestation, in hopes of breaking the silence that leaves so many victims ashamed and broken for life.
