9780692311448: Into the Heart of the Feminine: Facing the Death Mother Archetype to Reclaim Love, Strength, and Vitality

In this exceptionally readable book, Jungian analysts and authors Massimilla and Bud Harris dynamically weave their own personal and professional experiences in the form of rich and compelling stories, providing a down-to-earth book available to a wide audience.

A Book for Women...for Men...and for our Culture... Imagine within each of us, there is a deep, powerful source for living lives of love, creativity, and fulfillment. To imagine this foundation for life and the energy it produces is to imagine ourselves and our world filled with the influence of the archetypal feminine - her passionate creativity, love, and ageless knowing. Personally and culturally, this force - which lives at the heart of our lives - has been diminished and wounded until it seems to have retreated beyond the horizon, in a world filled with rationalism and an anxious search for the material "good life."

This is a powerfully moving book that goes beyond gender roles into the soul of the archetypal feminine, exploring how it has been damaged and traumatized, and finding out how this condition affects all of us. Through the myth of Medusa, the authors create an inspirational guide for healing, revitalizing, loving, and nurturing the archetypal feminine as we awaken our own voices and transform our fate.

ABOUT THE AUTHORS: Massimilla Harris, Ph.D., is a Jungian analyst with a practice in Asheville, North Carolina for the past 25 years. She holds a doctorate in Psychology and is a graduate of the C. G. Jung Institute in Zurich, Switzerland. She is also an author, teacher, award-winning quilter, and certified Solisten Provider. Developed by Dr. Alfred A. Tomatis, Solisten is a special kind of music therapy that, along with Jungian analysis, enables Dr. Harris to help people bring mind and body together to release their full potentials.

Bud Harris, Ph.D., originally became a businessman and successfully owned his own business before returning to school to become a psychotherapist. After earning his Ph.D. in psychology and practicing as a psychotherapist and psychologist, he experienced the call to further his growth and become a Jungian analyst. He then moved to Zürich, Switzerland where he trained for over five years and graduated from the C. G. Jung Institute. He is the author of ten books, lectures widely, and practices as a Jungian analyst in Asheville, North Carolina.

From the Author:

...Acceptance, holding, and pondering in our hearts make up a basic part of our feminine nature, of the elemental feminine. In this process, we are also accepting that our inner life is valid, that we need wholeness, and that this path will bring us to a feeling of inner unity and authenticity.......Only through reflecting upon how we are living and what we are feeling can we begin to recognize who and what we truly are and what we are really doing....                                                       -  excerpts from Into the Heart of the Feminine

From the Inside Flap:

During midlife, we spent a magical period of years in Zurich, Switzerland, concentrating on learning Jungian psychology, knowing ourselves, and transforming ourselves and our lives. We were both there because in very different ways, our lives were no longer working and were not carrying us into a future that we wanted to live. In the midst of many days of tears, we had never felt more alive. We discovered that our inner worlds are vibrant, modern, and thriving. For the first time in our lives, we began to learn what it means to live from the feminine principle, to give time and attention to healing ourselves in order to allow ourselves to grow beyond our former limits. This book and our collaboration began there, and we hope that the book reflects the great love of life that Jungian psychology has opened in us. We have suffered a lot in our lives and lost too much to be completely at peace in a shallow sense, but we have gained a deep respect for life and affection for the human spirit. We are very different and independent people, but we love to collaborate with each other creatively. The voice of this book is the voice of that collaboration.   -from the Foreword of Into the Heart of the Feminine
