The news for the millennial generation is doom and gloom. Immorality, divisiveness, insecurity, family brokenness and a lack of faith in scripture and God seem to affect the youth ministries of churches all across the world. Students are repeatedly guided through churches and youth ministries only to fall away shortly after they reach legal adulthood. This has sent many leaders scrambling for answers. But what if there was an answer? What if we could take the best of the Jewish "Bar/Bat Mitzvah," various rights of passage concepts, and new revelation to create a Christian ministry and celebration that prepares youth to know and understand the bible and their faith, walk in their identity with a loving Father, and serve within their gifts all while providing healing and unforgettable memories for themselves and their families? And the best part is-these "youth" are prepared, spiritual adults by the biblical age of 13! What if the church could- by trusting in God and the ability of their youth to learn and grow at an incredible pace- run an annual ministry that would stop God's enemy in his tracks? Not only is it possible-it's happening! "The Sons and Daughters of Blessing" is a ministry of "Lights, Camera, Action! Studios," the family ministries of Covenant Church of Pittsburgh. Over the last four years, our church has put our twelve and thirteen year old boys and girls through an intensive year long process where the candidates learn the following subjects: - The Origins of Scripture - The Canonization of the Bible/ How the Bible Became the Bible/ Council of Nicea - The Lord's Prayer/ How to Pray/ Why We Pray/ What to Expect From Prayer - The Kingdom Creed (Revised Nicean) - Kingdom-Based Catechisms (Revised Westminster) - The Ten Commandments - Inductive Bible Study: Observation, Interpretation, and Application - Free Will and the Soteriological Process - Water Baptism - Baptism in the Spirit - The Trinity - The Fatherhood of God - Spiritual Identity - Spiritual Gifts - What is Healing? - How a Christian Keeps Joy - The Reality and Purpose of God's enemy - What is Deliverance? - Apologetics - God's Plan for Sexuality - God's Plan for Marriage - Biblical Response to Homosexuality - Creationism and Intelligent Design - The Fallibilities of the theory of evolution - The Truth About Other Religions - Fasting - Tithing, Sowing, Saving, and Spending - How to Share Your Faith At the conclusion, the church celebrates the students in a moving ceremony in which each child is presented to the church as an adult by their parents. They declare them by name and pronounce them "In whom I am well pleased." Our church is in the middle of an incredible movement of God as our youth serve across generations- and we have no doubt that these "young adults" will not be swayed as easily as many who have gone before. They are prepared to live their lives in Christ now! Because of the results we have seen, we are making the curriculum available so other churches and ministries can experience this as well. It is used as a reference for religious stuidies at the College of Charleston. 'The Sons and Daughters of Blessing' Manual and Curriculum is nearly a full year's worth of lessons from 60-90 minutes long. It contains everything you need to start from scratch and gives detailed descriptions of the class style, goals, vision, and celebration ceremony. Fill in the blank student note taking templates, and links to additional resources are included. It is everything a youth leader needs to share the concept with their pastor and board, get started with students and families in the right way, launch, teach an engaging class, record progress, connect students to your church, and plan and execute a celebration your students, parents, and church will never forget. If you have been praying for something proven that will bear true and eternal fruit, then the 'Sons and Daughters of Blessing' is what you and your church are looking for.
