My journey started in Philadelphia Pennsylvania with my mother who was 19 and a single parent working in a factor. When I was 5 she married a postal worker and shortly afterwards we moved to Wilmington Delaware where my brother was born. Our life was good surrounded with much love and happiness. We enjoyed school and did well in academic studies. After high school I joined the Armed Forces during the Vietnam War, and after my military service I received an Honorable Discharged at Travis AFB in Fairfield California. I decided not to go back to Wilmington Delaware to live because of the racism I experienced while growing up and the horrible winters. After discharging I moved to Berkeley California a college town across the Bay Bridge from San Francisco where the atmosphere was much more inviting than Delaware. My first job after being in the military was with a company called Lawrence Radiation laboratories in the Berkeley hills. After working at L.R.L for a few years a friend told me that Amtrak was hiring on-board service personal and because I loved to travel I jumped at the opportunity and was hired immediately. I had been working for Amtrak on the railroad for four years when I returned home one day to get the shock of my life.
