About the Author

Hugh Sidey- 40 years with TIME magazine as a political observer (column: "The Presidency") Born and raised in Iowa, a journalist of international reknown.

Cornelia F. Mutel- author: FRAGILE GIANTS, and LAND OF THE FRAGILE GIANTS. A frequent writer and lecturer on Iowa's natural history; a historian of science at the University of Iowa.

Mary Swander- Award-winning poet and author of several books, essays, short stories, poetry and non-fiction. Works include: PARSNIPS IN THE SNOW and OUT OF THIS WORLD (chronicling her life among the Iowa Amish) Swander teaches at Iowa State University.

Craig Canine- Author of DREAM REAPER; AN OLD FASHIONED INVENTOR IN THE HIGH-TECH, HIGH-STAKES WORLD OF MODERN AGRICULTURE. Canine is an editor at Meredith Corporation.

Michael Martone- Has published books of short stories and well as many essays and articles. He taught writing at Iowa State University for 7 years before moving to Syracuse University.
