Synopsis

Pp. viii, (6), 848; 425 text-figures and photos. Publisher's original blue cloth, lettered in gilt on the spine, original glassine dust wrapper, thick lg 8vo. This is the classic work on caecilians (limbless, serpentine amphibians), that is long out-of-print and very scarce. When Edward Taylor wrote this work, he was considered the world's leading authority on this group. Modern caecilians and their closest fossil relatives are grouped as a clade, Apoda, within the larger group Gymnophiona (from Wiki). They inhabit the tropics of South and Central America, Africa, and southern Asia.
