The Royal Navy in the Second World War is the setting for this thrilling tale of adventure.
The story begins in GCHQ where Gordon Armour is reprimanded by a good-looking young woman, Sarah Watling, for a breach in security. The meeting is to spark off a passionate love-affair. However they are soon separated: in the face of the looming Japanese threat Gordon's expert linguistic knowledge and cypher-breaking skill make him invaluable to the British Naval war effort. He is drafted on to the Navy's largest warship the Prince of Wales where he watches the subject of the title, Admiral Sir Tom Phillips, manoeuvring to circumvent the errors of other decision making commanders. However, his efforts are all in vain - the Admiral and hundreds of others go down with the great ship, but Gordon survives to tell the tale.
