Peter Vladimirov was TASS war correspondent of the Chinese Communist Party in 1942-45. At the time, the Chinese Communists were bitterly split over the issue of co-operation with Chiang Kai-Shek in the fight against the Japanese invaders. Although strongly coloured by its author's political bias, this diary provides rare insight into the roots of the modern conflict between China and the U.S.S.R.
