TONY BRADMAN has written more than fifty books for children, including Look Out, He's Behind You (Methuen), the Dilly books (Piccadilly and Magnet) and Has Anyone Seen Jack? for Frances Lincoln. Well-known as a children's book reviewer for Parents magazine, he also founded the Best Book for Babies Award. JENNY WILLIAMS studied illustration at the Wimbledon School of Art. She has illustrated dozens of children's books, including Lion in the Meadow (Dent), A Holiday for the Three Bears and A Bad Week for the Three Bears (Harper Collins). From School Library Journal:
PreSchool-- To the rhythm of "This little piggy," a toddler enjoys common experiences throughout the course of a day. The rhyme adaptation flows smoothly and sticks to the familiar, but some adults may be concerned by "this little baby's being bad." The parents are free of stereotypical roles--mother goes to work and father spends the day with baby. In fact, the baby is generic, and the market and the school show a wide ethnic mix. Individual objects to touch and name move informally around framed scenes of different sizes. All are drawn in pen and ink and colored with bright watercolors. Some of the scenes are quite detailed for young audiences and several times the pictures tell a sequential story (pulling a tablecloth, causing a spill) that is probably too difficult for a toddler's comprehension. There is, however, subtle visual humor to amuse parents or to share with an older sibling. The book is warm and attractive and not too British, but the visual concepts may be beyond the not yet potty trained. --Carolyn Caywood, Virginia Beach Public Library
