Since the first edition was published the development of VLSI techniques has enabled complex logic networks comprising tens of thousands of transistors to be fabricated on a single slice of silicon. In preparing this second edition, the author extended its scope to include a brief description of microprocessor architecture, and the characteristics of their interface packages. Also included is a description of microprocessor bus arrangements, and the rather different design techniques needed when programs are held in read-only storage.
