Today, interior decoration is more popular than ever, reflecting an increasing awareness of the need to preserve and restore historic interiors. Using many contemporary sources together with specially commissioned photographs, this book details and discusses all the styles and periods of English decoration, from the Middle Ages to the last 40 years. "The History of English Interiors" is invaluable as a reference guide for professionals and experts, and a source of inspiration for anyone interested in interior decoration today. Alan Gore was a senior partner in the architectural practice Gore, Gibberd & Saunders, specializing in the restoration of houses in Britain and France. Since 1977, he has organized and written two series for Thames Television - "The English Garden" and "The English House". Ann Gore worked as a fashion journalist on "Harper's Bazaar" and "Vanity Fair" and as fashion editor on "Women's Journal" and the "Sketch". She is the co-author of "Old English Villages".
