Book Description David & Charles, 1969. Condition: Used: Acceptable. Ex library hardback with D/J, usual stamps/markings. 1969 facsimile of original 1846 edition. This is a reproduction of the history and description of the Great Western Railway. from drawings taken expressly for this work and executed in lithography by John C. Bourne. It is not an exact facsimile since some material is not of railway, artistic or historical interest. All the railway material and plates are however reproduced here. Part of the 2nd page of the preface is no longer operative since the material, including the appendix, has been deleted. The omissions include a list of plates, sections of text on General Topography, Geology and General Antiquities, the illustrations of churches and the appendices on Church notes and on the Geology of the Neighbourhood of Bristol. The original pagination has not been changed meaning there are some gaps as between pages 13 and 30; the illustration on page 13 originally appeared over the list of plates. Although colour codes are shown for the section of the GW Railway and the map on the following page, neither in fact contained colour in their original state. D/J very worn and broken in places, shelf wear & page edges are grubby & there are some handling marks to pages, hinge on front end papers is split in places but binding is intact - otherwise text & plates are clean. Will despatch within 24 hours. This is a very large book - over 1.5kgs - will ship overseas for extra postage. SHELF 7. Seller Inventory # SFL-BB1-30

Book Description David & Charles, Newton Abbot, 1970. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. First Edition. Arguably the high water mark of the publisher's inspired catalogue of facsimile reprints. This edition features all the railway related parts of the original 1846 publication but omits the general sections re topography, geology, local antiquities etc. The reproductions of Bourne's delightful lithographs are of very good quality. Clean, tight and sound copy. Book is slightly musty and has light foxing to text block edges. Original publisher's two tone cloth binding, gilt lettered. Dust wrapper a little soiled, not price clipped or faded, some wear at edges. Original clear plastic wrapper present too, but rather scruffy. No inscriptions. Vi + 58 pages + plates. A large and heavy book but no extra postage will be required. Size: Folio. Category: Railways; ISBN: 0715346881. ISBN/EAN: 9780715346884. Pictures of this item not already displayed here available upon request. Inventory No: 0021721. Seller Inventory # 0021721

Book Description David & Charles Reprints, Newton Abbot, Devon, 1970. Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. Reprint of work originally published in 1846 by David Bogue. Red-brown boards with black spine-strip and gold lettering, in pictorial dust-jacket. 393 x 540 x 23mm. 58 text pages + diagram showing section of the railway + 2pp of maps + extensive section of mostly full-page b/w drawings. Pages 45 to 58 (7 leaves) have slight damage at bottom corner, originally 2 leaves being folded with 137mm fold across corner, evidently during manufacture, then neighbouring leaves somehow worn/deteriorated near fold, resulting in thinning of paper and small holes; all pages remain intact however, and damage in no way affects readability of text or pictures; jacket is also nibbled/worn along edges, mainly bottom edge but also near head of spine; otherwise both book cover and internal pages are very clean and almost as new. A handsome volume overall. NB: An extra shipping charge may be requested for heavier or more valuable items. All our 'Seller Images' show the actual item you will receive. Seller Inventory # 005841
