About the Author:
Dorothy Simpson worked as a French teacher and then for many years as a marriage-guidance counsellor, before turning to writing full time. She is married with three children and lives near Maidstone, Kent, the background to the Thanet novels. The fifth book in the series, LAST SEEN ALIVE, won the Crime Writers' Association Award in 1985.
Review:
A really excellent example of the genre: well thought out and equally well executed, with some cunningly concealed surprises. Inspector Thanet is a definite find. TLS Pace, plot and subtle characterisations all combine to make this a cracking good read. SUNDAY TELEGRAPH Simpson handles her characters and storyline with consummate skill and her descriptions of the Kentish countryside are a delight to read. TODAY Real policemen always claim not to read crime fiction: they would do well to read this one, not least because, like all Simpson's, it is admirable for its clean writing, shrewd portraits and tight plots.
