Dr. Clifford's loosely connected short stories mix his wonderful and dry sense of humor with memories of medical practice in rural England. His largely geriatric clientele generates a plethora of tales about senior moments, some of which are the doctor's own. The patients he remembers are the ones with the most color, and he paints them in the commonest British English (for example, "tummy ache," "leg bone," and "drinkin' a pint"). Christopher Scott's native accent and skill with Clifford's comedy enhance the simple prose to produce pleasant audio listening, as in Mary Poppins' lyric: "A spoonful of honey makes the medicine go down."
