Schillebeeckx provides a contemporary analysis of transubstantiation and its meaning and significance today. The first part of the book concentrates on the concerns and approach of the Fathers who defined the doctrine at the Council of Trent, and the second part develops a modern interpretation of the 'distinctively eucharistic manner of the Real Presence.'
