The Poellenberg Salt, as it is called, is a fabulous Benevenuto Cellini creation which had been for generations in the aristocratic hands of the Von Hessels until it was appropriated by an S.S. commander, "the general," who had supposedly died in Siberia but actually hibernated in Spain until now when he wants to give the Poellenberg to his daughter, Paula Stanley. Simply put, this is Paula's attempt to find her father rather than the legacy, the Von Hessels' attempt to retrieve it, and the final revelations of more terrible war guilts on the covetous part of all those connected with it during the eruptive finish.
