About the Author

Janet is an Australian, who was born and raised in Dorset, UK. Happily married since her late teens, she and her husband migrated to Australia with the first two of her family of five, after her husband finished his term in the Royal Navy. She became interested in writing when the kids grew up, because she thought she might be able to write a story as readable as some of the authors she was reading.

You can never really choose who you fall in love with, and no one knows that better than young Meggie Elliott. It all began the moment she arrived in London at the start of WWII. As she tried to find her way to her aunt and uncle’s home in the smoggy shadows, she ran into a presumably nice officer, who ensured her safe arrival. She then met aristocrat Nicholas Cowan, who may be the kind officer and/or the man who burglarized her aunt’s home just a few days later. Meggie dreams of pursuing a legal career but joins the WRNS (Women’s Royal Naval Service)instead. She becomes rather fond of Rainard Stone, a solicitor for the estate she inherits from her family, but nothing diminishes the connection she feels to Nicholas. As love becomes entwined with a mammoth secret, Woods presents a powerful historical love story that expresses her passion for storytelling and love of romance. --Carissa Chesanek
