Review

Microsoft Office 2000 introduces many new features that integrate the Office suite with intranets as never before. The Power of Intranets places these exciting capabilities in perspective, showing how you can leverage them to improve workgroup communication. This title is unabashedly Microsoft propaganda, but it is nevertheless quite useful for deploying Office 2000.

Authored by a former Microsoft employee and current Access solution developer, this book is an easy read for technical types and management as well. The book is packed with annotated screen shots that quickly point out key features.

The author explains various database deployment strategies in plain English with their respective pros and cons clearly spelled out. A companion CD-ROM includes the 60 Minute Intranet Wizard--a utility that runs in FrontPage 2000 and speeds you through the construction of a base intranet, complete with database access. This is a nice launching point for diving into creating your own workgroup Web site.

Whether you run a small business or are part of a large enterprise, The Power of Intranets is a good guide to have around. It's great for indoctrinating new personnel and allowing a smooth transition to Office 2000. --Stephen W. Plain

Topics covered: Workgroup level intranets, enabling users to collaborate and publish documents easily, and database deployment strategies.
