Robert S. Weinberg, PhD, is a professor in the Department of Physical Education, Health, and Sport Studies at Miami University in Ohio. Before coming to Miami University, Weinberg was a professor in the Department of Kinesiology at the University of North Texas from 1978 to 1992, including Regents Professor from 1988 to 1992. He was also voted one of the top 10 sport psychology specialists in North America by his peers.
In addition to teaching undergraduate sport psychology for more than 20 years, Weinberg has written extensively on topics related to sport psychology. He has published more than 125 journal articles and presented more than 250 scholarly papers at sport psychology conferences.
He has served as president of both the North American Society for the Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity and the Association for the Advancement of Applied Sport Psychology. He also has served on the editorial board of the Journal of Sport and Exercise Psychology and The Sport Psychologist. Currently he is editor of the Journal of Applied Sport Psychology. He is a certified consultant and a member of the United States Olympic Committee Sport Psychology Registry.
Dr. Weinberg earned his PhD in sport psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1977. He lives in Oxford, Ohio, and his children Kira and Josh live in Oxford and Dallas, respectively. In his free time Dr. Weinberg enjoys tennis, basketball, and traveling.
Daniel Gould, PhD, is a professor in the Department of Exercise and Sport Science at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro. He has taught sport psychology for more than 20 years. An active researcher, Don has published more than 100 articles on sport psychology. He was also the founding coeditor of The Sport Psychologist.
Don has been voted one of the top 10 sport psychology specialists in North America and was the first Australian sport psychology scholar. In 1994, he received the university’s coveted Alumni-Teaching Excellence Award, an all-campus teaching honor.
Gould is the former president of the Association for the Advancement of Applied Sport Psychology (1988-89) and the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance Sport Psychology Academy (1986). In addition to teaching undergraduate sport psychology, Dr. Gould is extensively involved in coaching education from youth sports to Olympic competition. He also uses his psychology skills as a consultant for Olympic and world-class athletes and worked with U.S. athletes at the Nagano Olympic Games in 1998.
Daniel, his wife Deb, and his two sons Kevin and Brian live in Greensboro, NC. In his leisure time, Dr. Gould enjoys swimming, fitness activities, and spending time with his children.
