Review:
"As in many other Greenhaven series, such as Opposing Viewpoints, these volumes in the new Examining Pop Culture series includes excerpts from a range of periodicals and primary sources. Both titles, with their sophisticated language and bibliographies of mostly scholarly resources, are best suited for older, academically advanced teens. A fine new series to spark well-informed discussions about lifestyle and current issues."

From School Library Journal:
Grade 9 Up-Scholarly essays are organized around four major issues: the early days, politics and rock, the dangers of the music, and the future. Articles cover such topics as the influence of black music, protest and feminist rock, drug use by musicians, explicit lyrics, and the effect of technology on music. The list of books for further research is annotated, and there is a decent index. Some of the essays are so scholarly that they will try the patience of all but the most serious young researchers. Overall, this volume has very limited appeal.
