Review:
"The titles in the new Presidents and Their Decisions series begin with a balanced introductory essay on a president's life and the controversies that surrounded him while he was in office. Then each of the major issues is explored in essays that attack or defend the administration's policy . The selections, which appeared during or not long after the event were written by a largely familiar cast of Washington pundits and players, are drawn from a variety of sources - magazine articles, think-tank papers and books."
-- Booklist (Febraury 2001) (Booklist 20010215)

"Each section includes four or five viewpoints, most of which are excerpts from scholarly texts or memoirs. The writers range across the political spectrum and although this is not precisely an opposing-viewpoints format, readers do see a variety of opinions and they are encouraged to draw their own conclusions."
-- School Library Journal (March 2001) (School Library Journal 20010301)

"After opening with a biographical sketch and short overview of Truman's political career and presidency, this volume provides positive and negative assessments, in an opposing viewpoints format, of the president's actions and policies... This book will serve older researchers who need an advanced analysis of the Truman record, making it a good choice for secondary libraries."

From School Library Journal:
Grade 9 & Up--After opening with a biographical sketch and short overview of Truman's political career and presidency, this volume provides positive and negative assessments, in an opposing-viewpoints format, of the president's actions and policies. They are thematically grouped in four main chapters: "Dropping the Atomic Bomb on Japan," "The Truman Doctrine and the Rebuilding of Europe," "The Korean War," and "Truman's Domestic Policies." Each chapter contains four or five pieces, most of which are excerpts from scholarly texts. Some were authored by contemporaries of Truman, but most are written by modern scholars who have drawn on recent research to offer historical perspective. The book also includes 12 excerpts from Truman's speeches, a chronology, and a topical list for further reading for each section, as well as a small number of black-and-white photos and cartoons that add little to the text. This book will serve older researchers who need an advanced analysis of the Truman record, making it a good choice for secondary libraries.
