Charles H. Sessions was an early-20th-century landowning businessman who named his dairy creamery after his wife, Lynne Wood. Her name would also grace the remarkable city that he pioneered, Lynwood. Early settlers, visionary residents, and city officials through the years have all helped Lynwood develop into a two-time All-America City Award winner. Lynwood’s exciting history stretches from its earliest colonization by Don Antonio Maria Lugo through its establishment in 1921 and to the present. Today, Lynwood has moved forward as a visionary city filled with strong, hardworking residents who continue to build paths of opportunity for future generations.

About the Author:

A vast amount of photographs has been collected over time to illustrate the development of Lynwood’s rich history, diversity, and community. These images serve as a narrative, showcasing the people, landmarks, activities, and histories that have played key roles in Lynwood’s growth. This book was a collaborative project between the City of Lynwood Recreation and Community Services Department staff and members of the community.

Review:

"Over a century of Lynwood's history is now available for residents via a collection of black and white images dating as far back as the late 1800s, starting with a painting of the city's first inhabitant, Don Antonio Maria Lugo.
The book begins with an introduction of the first ranch settlers of Lynwood and the city's quick progression into a suburban town undergoing vast cultural and economical shifts.
""I now understand why Lynwood has been a two-time All America City winner,"" said Irma Lopez, secretary of Lynwood's chamber of commerce.
Lynwood residents may be able to buy the book from Lopez and other Greater Lynwood Chamber of Commerce members for $20 at their local businesses.
""I highly recommend this to every person, regardless of age,"" said Lopez.
""It can help us identify better with our town and the place where we live.""
The book, entitled, Images of America: Lynwood, was put together with the help of the City of Lynwood and Arcadia Publishing, a local history publisher. "
Lynwood Patch Latino, Stephanie Rivera
